April 1, also known as prank day, is a learning opportunity you cannot miss in your ELA class. There is no need to actually play a prank on your students (even if you could:))) in order to use this day for strenghtening their English skills.
Here are some fun (almost no prep) and quick ideas to use in class on April Fool’s Day!
Plan The Perfect Prank – No idea what prank to play on your students? No problem! Let them plan the perfect prank.
Silly Notes – Have them write silly notes and give them randomly to friends, family or people from the school.
Look and Write – Give them a funny looking photo and ask them to write about it. Here are some ideas of photos you can use.
Laughable Idioms – Find some idioms that will make them laugh and ask your students to write a story using them.
Foolish Words – Create a word search grid with some words used on April 1.
The Joke Gallery – Ask your students to write the best jokes that they know.
A Foolish T-Shirt – Have your students design a T-Shirt people will wear for Fool’s Day.
A Fan-ny Invitation – Create an original invitation to April Fool’s Day Party on a fan.
April Fool’s Day Crossword – Create a crossword with information about April Fool’s Day history.
April Fool’s Day Photo Collage – Ask the students to cut and paste photos or other materials according to instructions like: a funny gift, a joke, a hilarious person and so on.
April Fool’s Day Scavenger Hunt – Have the students find a list of things and get them to create a prank with them.
Interview With A Prankster – Role play activity in which your students are the reporters or the pranksters. Have them create the questions or give them the questions beforehand.
April Fool’s Day Playlist – Let the students make a list of really funny songs and do some karaoke.
April Fool’s Day Trivia – Prepare a list of questions and have the students answer them in a limited amount of time. You may or may not let them google the answers.
April Fool’s Day Color Palette Poetry – Take some color palettes, a funny picture and have your students write some poetry.
