Happy World Teachers’ Day! … and a surprise for you

Teachers: the people who have shown us the path when we had no idea that we needed a path. Probably this is why teachers are not valued at their true worth, because they come into our lives too early and leave too soon. Nonetheless, their influence remains alive for our entire lives.

On October 5th, we all celebrate World Teachers’ Day and we all think about our own teachers and the teachers we want to be. In our profession becoming better is the norm and we do it for our students and for our ultimate goal: to change a person’s life for the better.

You are a teacher ?!?! You must be crazy!

This is what many friends of mine told me when they heard that I’d become a teacher 15 years ago. They did not understand why I opted in for an underpaid job, with long work hours and terrible psychological toll. But then, just as now, I knew that this was what I was meant to do. I felt in the classroom like a fish in the water. Even if at times, I was swimming against the stream, I was there, alive and kicking.

Still a teacher?! You are crazy for sure!

As years have passed by, probably everyone expected for me to drop dead from this career. The struggle was real, the stress took its toll, the daily changes that I had no control over turned life into a hectic ride. But I was still there, still believing I could do something good for my students, still knowing that there are students who need me to be there and change their lives. By now people have given up hope that I would choose a different career. My stand was clear. I was here to stay.

What’s next? Teaching is no longer in fashion!

No matter how high tech we become, teachers will always be a crucial part of our society. What’s next for me as a teacher? I have decided to stay in class. I have decided not to give up when things are getting tough. And let me tell you, they are getting tough sometimes. I have decided to give back and to share the things that have made my life easier and my teaching successful with you, my fellow teaching friends.

From this desire, this blog was born, these resources were created. From this hope in the future, I strive every day to create new activities that you can implement with ease in your class and which will hook your students. I want to make your life better, fulfilled, accomplished from all points of view.
